Patients Avoid Prevalent Scams & Fraud in California Medical Marijuana Program by Using Cannabis Doctors Network as Trusted Source

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 21, 2011) - Cannabis Doctors Network (online at: http://www.cannabisdoctorsnetwork.com) is streamlining efficacy, convenience, security and legality for qualified patients who are seeking to obtain a medical cannabis card in California.

The state currently hosts the most proactive laws that protect doctor recommended patients who are approved for the medical marijuana program in California, which currently allows for more than 100 different medical conditions to be treated using medicinal cannabis.

According to Cannabis Doctors Network, tragically, this voter and state approved program is plagued by fraudsters trying to swindle patients out of their hard earned monies by offering bogus cards and false promises.

"While there are plenty of credible organizations that can assist patients in getting a valid and legal medical marijuana recommendation in California, sadly there are some unscrupulous persons who are in it just for the easy buck," warns Srii Srinivasan, spokesperson for Cannabis Doctors Network.

According to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the only way that a patient can be issued a valid medical marijuana recommendation is by seeing a doctor that possesses in good standing, "a license to practice medicine or osteopathy in California issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California."

Furthermore, the physician must complete a full examination of the patient, including their history and assume "responsibility for an aspect of the medical care," according to CDPH. After examination, the physician must "document in the patient's medical record that the patient has a serious medical condition and that the medical use of marijuana is appropriate."

After a doctor examination, the records are submitted to CDPH with any other required paperwork and fees for approval. Only then will the state review the information and decide to approve or reject a medical marijuana card. Upon issuance of the card, the patient is protected by California Medical Marijuana Law as covered under California Senate Bill 420 (HS 11362.7) Medical Marijuana Implementation.

"The best way to know that you are legally protected from prosecution and abiding by the standing laws in the state of California is by ensuring that all protocols are strictly adhered to," Srinivasan advises to would-be patients.

There are a few classic signs of fraud to keep an eye out for.

"Beware of doctors who promise you same day cards, or who will write you a prescription [which is illegal] for medical marijuana," she says. "If a doctor refers you to a marijuana dispensary, that's illegal as well and is a sure sign of fraud.
